College of Medicine - Phoenix partners with Banner Health

Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix has received approval from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education to establish a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship, the first-ever in Greater Phoenix.

B-UMCPIt is the latest Graduate Medical Education (GME) program offered in partnership with the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix.

Kevin Huls, MD, cited the hard work that it took to bring the program to fruition.

“There is so much credit and thanks due to Dr. Laurie Erickson, Dr. Mike Foley, Sarah Selby, Barbara Shaw and Dr. Cheryl O’Malley and her staff in the GME office for helping us with putting together a remarkable application for our program,” said Dr. Huls, maternal fetal medicine fellowship director at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix. “After years of hard work and perseverance by many other people who came before me, we are finally able to celebrate such a monumental milestone for our department.”

Along with the announcement of the fellowship, Banner introduced its first fellow for 2017, Michael Leovic, MD. A graduate of The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Dr. Leovic joined Banner as a member of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency. Dr. Huls described him as a “perfect fit” for the fellowship, who “brings many remarkable qualities to the program, including a track record of outstanding leadership.” Dr. Leovic joins more than 300 residents and fellows across various GME offerings at Banner.
