Why Arizona and UA College of Medicine – Phoenix: After enduring the Midwest winters for 26 years, I was so ready for a warmer climate as I love to be outside and active. Phoenix and the surrounding area offers so many fun activities, plus you can drive two hours north and go skiing in Flagstaff or be in California in four hours. After completing a Sub-I at Banner, I had no doubt I wanted to spend the next three years training here. The faculty and residents foster an environment of camaraderie, and are all enthusiastic learners and teachers, as well as compassionate caregivers. In addition, I found the EBM emphasis, wide variety of experiences and ample elective time to pursue individual interests all appealing.

Why Arizona and UA College of Medicine – Phoenix: Arizona has been home for me since 2003. I met my husband here, and we absolutely always look forward to returning to Arizona when we travel. I love the beautiful weather we have, outside of June through September!

The Family Medicine program at BUMCP felt like home during the time I spent there as I sub-I. I enjoyed the program’s focus on evidence- based medicine that is practiced in a kind setting. I also appreciate the drive to keep physicians well, so that they can be their best with patients.

Medical School: UA College of Medicine – Phoenix
Why Arizona and UA College of Medicine – Phoenix: I loved rotating here as a medical student, and Dr. Brown was always a fantastic mentor to me throughout my time in medical school. Phoenix and the program at Banner have become my home away from home. I was looking for a program with a great blend of academic and community medicine in an urban underserved area with strong pediatrics and women’s health training — and found that here!

Undergraduate: University of Michigan
Medical School: Wayne State University School of Medicine
Why Arizona and UA College of Medicine – Phoenix: Ever since I decided to practice Family Medicine, I knew that I wanted to train in a place where everyone is passionate about providing primary care. I was really impressed by all that the UA – Phoenix residency has to offer, especially the program’s dedication to practicing evidence-based medicine and opportunities to get well-trained in women’s health, geriatrics and pediatrics. BUMCP is a top medical institution with a diverse patient population, wide array of medical services and specialties and excellent teaching throughout departments. I am also very excited to be in Arizona, where I will be able to enjoy the beautiful and sunny outdoors year-round! I think that I will quickly get used to not shoveling snow or scraping ice off of my car in the winter.

Undergraduate: The George Washington University
Medical School: The University of Texas Southwestern
Why Arizona and UA College of Medicine – Phoenix: I chose this program because of its dedication to tailoring its educational offerings to each resident’s intended goals and aspirations as a future family medicine physician. Importantly, this program also encourages its residents to become leaders for family medicine in the community, state and nation. The diverse patient population of Phoenix was also a huge draw. I wanted to enjoy the comforts of city life (and great food) with access to gorgeous nature. However, it was the awesome people here who sealed the deal for me. Good weather, good food, good people…what’s not to love?!

Why Arizona and UA College of Medicine – Phoenix: The enthusiasm of the residents and faculty about the program is wonderful. Banner offers full spectrum training and is flexible to fit my interests. Why Arizona and UA College of Medicine – Phoenix: I did an elective rotation at Banner in 2016, and I felt like the hospital was truly a community. Everyone I met was eager to teach and happy to be at work. Furthermore, when I interviewed with the Family Medicine program, they were all enthusiastic, knowledgeable and supportive of one another. In short, they felt like a family. In regards to Arizona, we moved often when I was younger, but I’ve been in the Midwest since I was 12. My family is still in Illinois, but when I was looking at residency programs, I felt like I was ready for the next adventure. When I visited Arizona in 2016, between the heat and the hiking, I thought (and still think) it’s the best place on Earth.
