Selection Criteria

ERAS applications must contain the following materials to be considered:

  • Personal statement.
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Letters of reference from members of the surgery family.
  • Medical school transcripts.
  • An official copy of the USMLE Part 1 performance record.

While USMLE Part II (clinical knowledge) scores are not required to complete your application, it is our firm belief that this examination ultimately best reflects the kind of problem-solving skills we seek in our house officers. At the time of the application review, the content will be evaluated within the context of what this program is looking for among its trainees — well-rounded applicants who demonstrate a broad and deep medical knowledge, an aptitude for deciphering surgical disease states, and a work ethic founded on the team approach to actively learning and delivering professional, empathetic patient care.

Qualified applicants for a categorical position will be offered the opportunity of a personal interview; the completion of which is an absolute requirement before we will list that applicant on the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Only those applicants who will be offered an interview opportunity will be contacted — by the primary email address offered on the ERAS application. Additional information as to the interview process will be included in that mailing. Please understand that only a limited number of interviews are granted.

Qualified preliminary resident applicants will be contacted directly and offered a virtual interview.

*We accept applicants only through the ERAS.
*We currently are not considering applications from foreign medical graduates.
