The Clerkships allow students to learn in the clinical setting and become active members of the health care team.

Students rotate through eight core clerkships and one ambulatory elective: Family, Community and Preventive MedicineInternal MedicineNeurologyObstetrics and GynecologyPediatricsPsychiatry and Surgery, which occur during the third year. The Emergency Medicine clerkship occurs during the fourth year. Students have the opportunity during their third year to participate in a parallel curriculum called the Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC).

The clerkship experience includes interactive learning sessions on academic half-days, simulation activities and clinical site participation. Clinical assignments include both urban and rural sites.

Our major clinical partners include Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix, Phoenix Children's Hospital, Dignity Health St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, Barrow Neurological Institute, Valleywise Health (formerly Maricopa Integrated Health System), Abrazo Central Campus, HonorHealth, Phoenix VA Health Care System, Hospice of the Valley and other important partners such as Yuma Regional Medical Center, Indian Health Services and underserved clinics throughout the state.

Students are challenged in areas of medical knowledge, patient care, professionalism, critical appraisal and quality improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, as well as societal awareness and responsiveness.
