Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the achievements and contributions of the Latino(a)(x)/Hispanic/Spanish (LHS+) community. American champions who have inspired others to achieve new heights and trailblaze paths for future generations. From September 15 to October 15, join our campus community in honoring and celebrating Hispanic Heritage month.

Monday, September 26, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in Health Sciences Education Building (HSEB) C104
Lunch and Learn: Addressing the Symptoms of Disease Disparities with Cristalis Capielo, MD – Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA), White Coats for Black Lives (WC4BL) and the Office of Equity Diversity and Inclusion (OEDI) hosted an informative lunch talk on the unique challenges within the AfroLatinx community, and how we can better serve these populations in medicine with Dr. Capielo.
Monday, October 3, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in HSEB C104
Latinx Physician Panel – All members of the Phoenix Bioscience Core are invited to a Lunch and Learn where we will discuss the difficulties that LHS+ members face in medicine, both patients and physicians. We will be joined by Latinx physicians discussing their personal journey through medicine and experiences with being LHS+. Box lunches will be provided to attendees who RSVP before the day of the event.

Hispanic Heritage Month Lecture Series: The Role of Medical Education Offices in Preparing the Physician Workforce to Care for LHS+ Identified Individuals – Pilar Ortega, MD, Debora Silva, MD, Jose E. Rodriguez, MD and Loretta Muller will present.
Tuesday, October 11, from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. on the 5th Floor of the HSEB
Ofrenda Kick-Off Event – The college's LMSA chapter will initiate the annual tradition of having an Ofrenda. The Ofrenda celebrates the end of Hispanic Heritage Month and the upcoming Dia de los Muertos in November. LMSA and OEDI will be hosting the morning event with coffee and pastries. Participants are welcome to bring photos of loved ones, so they can be celebrated on the altar during the remaining weeks of October. The altar will be in place until the middle of November.
