A defining feature of living cells is the transfer of energy. Using the heart as a model system for the conversion of chemical to mechanical energy, I will review the work which led to the discovery of the two major moiety conserved cycles. I will show how cycles also integrate a multitude of cellular reactions and enhance metabolic efficiency. I will refer to newer developments including actionable metabolic pathways, like anaplerosis, the cycling and recycling of NADH\/H+, bidirectional flux of substrates, and metabolite signals which modulate gene expression and protein turnover. The Research Office for Medical Education<\/a>\u00a0is hosting Journal Club Meetings on the fourth Thursday of every month\u00a0from 12:00\u20131:00 p.m. via Zoom<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n
The Research Office for Medical Education\u00a0is a new resource office on campus for faculty, staff, students, residents and fellows who are interested in medical education research. The Journal Club is an opportunity to learn more about current events, topics, article formats\u00a0and discussions happening in medical education research across the continuum. The Journal Club meetings will rotate on-campus and quarterly off-campus at our affiliate hospitals. The initial Journal Club meetings will be hosted by the Research Office for Medical Education Advisory Board Members<\/a><\/strong>, after which volunteers will have the opportunity to present an article that interests them and would be beneficial to the group.<\/p>\n\n
The monthly Journal Clubs are open to members of the College of Medicine \u2013 Phoenix and its\u00a0affiliates. Email reminders will be sent for each Journal Club meeting along with the chosen article.<\/p>\n\n
