The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix Vascular Neurology fellowship is a one-year ACGME accredited program based at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix. Our program is designed to meet the requirements for the ABPN Vascular Neurology Board Certification.
The Division of Stroke and Vascular Neurology at the University of Arizona–Phoenix has a long and distinguished history. Our accomplishments include:
- One of the first Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Centers in the state (2009)
- Becoming the first Joint Commission–certified Comprehensive Stroke Center in both Phoenix and the state of Arizona (2017)
- 40 beds closed neuro-intensive care unit staffed 24/7 by neuro intensivists
- 4 MRI machines including a 3 tesla MRI, available 24/7 for stat stroke cases to administer TNK in the extended window by the AHA stroke guidelines 2026
- 24/7 available rapid EEG devices
- We are a pioneer center for Phagenyx which is a device that improves swallowing safety and efficiency to accelerate recovery from post stroke dysphagia
- Our chairman, Dr. Andrei Alexandrov, is a nationally and internationally recognized leader in stroke care. He has earned prestigious distinctions from the medical community, placing him at the forefront of the field. U.S. News & World Report named Dr. Alexandrov one of America’s Top Doctors in Neurology (2011–2014); Castle Connolly recognized him among the top 1% of neurology specialists (2011–2017); and Expertscape designated him a world expert in stroke and ultrasonic therapy in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
