Why the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix: This program offers early operative experience in general surgery and subspecialty services as well as a robust trauma experience throughout all years of residency. There is a culture of support amongst the residents and from the faculty that was palpable even from the interview. I also was searching for a program that produced chiefs that matched well to fellowships and who were strong enough operatively to go directly into practice depending on their career goals.
