Overview

Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society (AΩA)is a prestigious national medical honor society founded in 1902. Following application review and site visit, the national organization approved the launch of the local AΩA chapter at our school under the direction of the inaugural faculty committee and the dean. The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix now proudly hosts the 138th AΩA Chapter, making it the second Chapter in Arizona.

Election to Alpha Omega Alpha is a significant honor that represents a lifelong commitment to the values of professionalism, leadership, scholarship, research, and community service. Membership in AΩA is a recognition of a physician’s dedication to the profession and the art of healing, signifying a lasting commitment to excellence in the medical field.

Mission Statement

The AΩA Honor Medical Society mission is dedicated to the belief that in the profession of medicine we will improve care for all by:

  • Recognizing high educational achievement
  • Supporting the ideals of humanism
  • Promoting service to others
  • Honoring gifted teaching
  • Encouraging the development of leaders in academia and the community

Medical students eligible to be nominated “have demonstrated scholastic achievement, demonstrated professionalism, and have shown promise to becoming leaders in the profession”.
