The primary eligibility criteria for election to Alpha Omega Alpha (AΩA) at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix are based on academic performance, with additional factors considered to promote inclusivity.

Eligibility criteria for students
- Academic performance criteria:
- Successful completion of all coursework during the first two years of medical school
- Successful and timely completion of USMLE Step 1
- Weight is placed on clinical performance in all clerkships during the MS 3 year: clinical scores and shelf exam percentiles
- Additional criteria representing one or more of the following activities:
- Leadership roles in the school or at the state/national level
- Service, volunteerism and advocacy
- Scholarship and awards, including dual degree enrollment
Exclusion Criteria
- Failure in any course or block in MS 1 or MS 2 years
- Failure of any exam/clerkship/elective or course in the MS 3 year and until the election process
- Any professionalism concerns during any year
Student Selection and Election Process
- Step 1: Students who meet the academic criteria will be notified of their eligibility for AOA membership.
- Step 2: To enter the final stage of consideration, eligible students will be required to submit their CV along with a descriptive form outlining engagement in the areas of leadership, service, volunteerism, advocacy, scholarship, etc.
- Step 3: Election process : April-June
