Eligibility
GHHS recognizes medical students, faculty, and residents who demonstrate exemplary humanistic and professional behavior. The society emphasizes compassionate patient care, integrity, respect, and empathy in medical practice. GHHS aims to promote a culture of humanism in healthcare.
• 3rd year medical students (March: end of MS 3 year)
• Residents in training at College of Medicine – Phoenix sponsored programs
• Teaching faculty actively engaged in student education
Nominee characteristics
- Consistently demonstrates compassion, empathy, and cultural humility in care delivery, while treating all patients with respect and dignity
- Serves as professional role model exhibiting qualities of interprofessional teamwork, reliable engagement and skilled communication
- Engages in volunteerism through service to the community and/or organizational engagement
Nomination process for students
- Over the course of MS 3 clerkships, students will have the opportunity to be nominated for this distinction by faculty who have directly observed student performance in the clinical setting, using clerkship and/or LIC evaluation forms
- Peer nominations based on peer observed behaviors or peer endorsed engagement in community service/leadership roles at College of Medicine – Phoenix over 3 years
- All student nominations will be shared with the Office of Student Affairs to ensure eligibility.
Selection Committee: Committee chair, 3 faculty and 3 students, all of whom are GHHS members.
Selection and Induction: The committee will select up to 15% of students, and up to 4 faculty and 6 residents. The induction ceremony is planned and hosted by GHHS student members under the guidance of the committee chair. The event is held in April each year.

Completion of this survey (PDF) is voluntary and intended to recognize peers who exemplify the core values of the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Responses will be reviewed in aggregate to identify students who demonstrate outstanding clinical competence, compassion, integrity, and commitment to service. Once completed, please submit your nomination using the contact information listed on the Contact page so the results can be properly received and reviewed.
