Program Description
The Clinical Translational Sciences (CTS) Graduate Program at the University of Arizona is designed to provide a strong foundation in clinical translational research, either for postgraduate students already granted a terminal degree in a health science-related field (e.g., MD, DPharm, DrPH, DNP, MBBS, etc.), or for post-baccalaureate students.
The program is intended to provide the foundation for a research career in the Clinical Translational Sciences. To achieve this aim, the student acquires:
- Adequate base knowledge of biostatistics and CTS coursework that is specific to the student’s area of research interest (e.g. cancer biology, cardiology, neurology, population health, etc.).
- Experience and training in basic or clinical research, culminating in an original research project for the thesis.
- Professional development, including experience and training in the presentation and publication of research findings, preparation for research careers, and ethics in research.
The mission of the Master’s program is to provide an avenue for the student to gain more experience in and exposure to the diverse areas of the clinical translational sciences and to enable the student to obtain in-depth knowledge in a specific area of health sciences research. CTS students may specialize in an area such as immunology, neuroscience, cellular and molecular medicine, pharmacology, clinical bioinformatics or others. To this end, students will participate in a specific translational research project under the guidance of a UA faculty mentor, in addition to completing a list of courses selected with advice from the mentor, including courses offered by U of A's health sciences colleges: Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health, Health Sciences and Nursing.
