Conferences

The conference schedule is comprised of weekly Monday small group discussions on assigned readings on a rotating monthly schedule:

  • Green's Hand Surgery Review.
  • Morbidity and Mortality/Indications Conference.
  • ASSH Self-Assessment Exam Review.
  • Journal Club.

In addition to the weekly Monday conferences, fellows will attend quarterly Interdisciplinary Rounds. Representatives from four related disciplines will present a didactic lecture to the fellows. These disciplines include Radiology, Rheumatology, Pain Management and Occupational Therapy. Topics will be specific to the upper extremity and will include:

  • Upper Extremity Imaging.
  • Autoimmune Disorders.
  • Pain Management / Electromyography Studies.
  • Hand and Elbow Rehabilitation.

The Dual Visiting Professorship, which is a triannual CME event, invites two prominent, academic hand, upper extremity and/or microvascular surgeons to visit the facilities to engage the residents, fellows, faculty and members of the medical community for a two-day academic event. The curriculum includes didactic lectures, debates, roundtable discussions and cadaveric laboratories.

Courses and Meetings

The Program will compensate fellows to attend one national society meeting. The fellow will choose between the following annual meetings:

  • American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
  • American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
  • American Association of Hand Surgery.
  • Arthroscopy Association of North America.
  • American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery.

In addition to these meetings, fellow research projects that are accepted for podium presentations will have their travel costs compensated for in order to present their work.

The Program will also send each fellow to two intensive skills courses: 1.) An Arthroscopy Course and 2.) A Microsurgical Course.
