Diversity Mission Statement

We believe in fostering a culture of Inclusive Excellence, where all identities and differences including, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, gender identity/expression, sex, sexual orientation, age, religion, language, abilities/disabilities, socioeconomic status, educational backgrounds and geographic region are embraced and valued. A culture of Inclusive Excellence creates role models, broadens perspectives, combats negative stereotyping and optimizes our ability to provide world-class health care for all.

Through Inclusive Excellence, the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix is committed to and champions equity, diversity, and inclusion as core values central to its mission. Inclusive Excellence is the intentional driver of equity, diversity and inclusion, which harnesses the differences, talents and unique qualities of all individuals at the College of Medicine – Phoenix. Inclusive Excellence engages the individual and system in practices that advance diversity in all that we do. Inclusive Excellence is inextricably linked to our pursuit of excellence in our research, clinical and educational missions to meet the needs of the students, faculty, postdocs, residents, fellows, staff, patients, and the communities we serve.

Moreover, through Inclusive Excellence and our tripartite missions, the College of Medicine – Phoenix is committed to mitigating health disparities, especially for marginalized groups and populations made vulnerable, in order to improve community health outcomes, particularly in rural, urban underserved, and medically underserved areas.

College of Medicine - Phoenix Land Acknowledgement

We respectfully acknowledge the University of Arizona is on the land and territories of Indigenous peoples. Today, Arizona is home to 22 federally recognized tribes, with Phoenix being home to the Ak-Chin Indian Community, Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, Gila River Indian Community, and Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. We are committed to diversity and inclusion, the University strives to build sustainable relationships with sovereign Native Nations and Indigenous communities through education offerings, partnerships, and community service.
