The Office of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (OEDI) at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix works closely with Student Affairs to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for new medical students, ensuring they feel a strong sense of belonging from the start of their medical education. As part of the onboarding process, OEDI and Student Affairs collaborate to organize events aimed at helping students from all backgrounds connect with one another, faculty, and staff. These initiatives are designed to foster a supportive community where students feel empowered and valued, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or background.
In addition to traditional orientation activities, OEDI and Student Affairs provide resources and mentorship opportunities that emphasize inclusivity and the importance of diversity in the medical field. The goal is not only to help students navigate the academic rigors of medical school but also to ensure they have the tools and support needed to thrive personally and professionally.
