Jeffrey Stowell, MD

Brief Bio

Jeffrey Stowell, MD, is a board-certified emergency medicine physician, as well as a clinical associate professor and the interim chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix. Dr. Stowell practices emergency medicine at Valleywise Health in Phoenix, Arizona, and has been clinical faculty with the College of Medicine – Phoenix for over five years.

Prior to joining the college, Dr. Stowell completed his graduate medical education training at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson, emergency medicine residency training at the University of Texas in Houston and a fellowship in emergency ultrasound with Denver Health.

Since joining the College of Medicine – Phoenix, Dr. Stowell has focused on resident and fellow education, clinical operations and emergency medicine administration. Dr. Stowell has served as the associate ultrasound director.

In addition, he developed both the Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship and Administrative Fellowship at Valleywise Health, successfully recruiting and mentoring fellows over the last five years. Dr. Stowell has demonstrated a passion for the teaching and mentorship of emergency medicine trainees and was acknowledged by the program with the Excellence in Teaching Award.

Dr. Stowell has also served in operational and administrative leadership roles within the department. Dr. Stowell served as the medical director for the Valleywise Health Medical Center and as the vice chair for the department prior to becoming interim chair.

Over the last five years, Dr. Stowell has become a leader in the field of emergency medicine and become a nationally recognized clinician, educator and researcher. As interim chair, Dr. Stowell will continue to promote the mission of the College of Medicine – Phoenix and the Department of Emergency Medicine.
