Research

Research in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix is in its developmental stage. In the short term, the department seeks to support faculty who are involved in, or wish to be involved in, clinical informatics research and scholarship and to link students with an interest in clinical informatics research and scholarship with faculty mentors. A long-term goal is the development of a robust capacity of The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix to contribute to knowledge about the development, evaluation and dissemination of informatics-based strategies that improve the quality, efficiency, safety and outcomes of health care.

We anticipate that the research development efforts in the Department of Biomedical Informatics will follow three pathways:

  • In partnership with companies and community providers, evaluation of informatics tools used to improve, formulate, develop, implement and assess innovative clinical and population-oriented informatics-based strategies to improve the quality, safety, efficiency and outcomes of health care with a focus on clinical decision support.
  • Support for dissemination of information about the results of evaluations of informatics tools.
  • Enhanced capacity to participate in Patient-Centered Outcomes Research.
