Our U of A College of Medicine – Phoenix Psychiatry Clerkship has been a key clinical learning experience for our third-year students for over a quarter century. The four-week rotation has been popular and valued, drawing many students into our specialty, as well as developing relevant clinical skills for those pursuing other careers in medicine.
Our Clerkship is exemplary in using a distributed model across metropolitan Phoenix, providing students superb opportunities in the assessment and treatment of a wide variety of patients supervised by our highly skilled clinician educator faculty. Current clinical sites include Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, the Carl T. Hayden VA Health Care System, Valleywise Health (formerly Maricopa Integrated Health System), The Guidance Center and Northern Arizona VA Health Care in Prescott supporting our Rural Health Professions Program students.
In addition to our longstanding Psychiatry Clerkship, our department also offers numerous elective experiences for medical students, which are listed in the U of A College of Medicine – Phoenix student electives catalog. Interested faculty should contact Denege Ward, MD Director, Electives and Ruth Franks Snedecor, MD Co-Director, Electives of the College of Medicine – Phoenix Electives program.
