Overview
It is with great enthusiasm that we introduce the new Anesthesiology Residency Program at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix, developed in partnership with the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix. This program represents a significant milestone in our commitment to advancing perioperative, critical care, and pain medicine through excellence in education, clinical care, and innovation.
Our vision is to build a residency that produces not only highly skilled anesthesiologists, but also leaders in patient safety, systems-based practice, and academic medicine. Situated in one of the nation’s fastest-growing and most diverse healthcare environments, our trainees will experience a high-acuity, high-volume clinical setting that spans complex surgical care, trauma, transplant, neuroanesthesia, pain and critical care medicine.
To achieve this, our residents will rotate at the largest hospital and Level I trauma center in the state - Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix. Additional rotations will be available in community hospitals throughout Phoenix, including a pediatric anesthesiology rotation at Banner—Children’s Hospital.
Our program is intentionally designed to emphasize:
- Clinical Excellence: Rigorous, hands-on training across all subspecialties of anesthesiology in a dynamic academic medical center
- Innovation & Scholarship: Opportunities to engage in impactful research, quality improvement, and healthcare innovation
- Leadership Development: Structured mentorship and leadership training to prepare graduates for roles in academic and clinical leadership
- Interprofessional Collaboration: A team-based model that values and integrates the expertise of physicians, CRNAs, nurses, and allied health professionals
- Safety and Efficiency: A system that exposes residents to both academic and community/private practice anesthesiologists, so that safe and timely patient access to surgery and procedures may be maintained
