Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix

Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix, formerly Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, is located just north of downtown Phoenix and is where the majority of our rotations occur. It is the flagship academic medical center and tertiary referral center for the Banner Health system as well as an ACS-verified level one trauma center. It is the largest and busiest hospital and trauma center in the state, with 746 beds, including 120 ICU beds. Residents rotate on the following services:
- Multispecialty Anesthesia– CA1-3.
- Orthopaedic Anesthesia – CA1-3.
- Cardiothoracic Anesthesia – CA2-3.
- Acute Pain / Regional Anesthesia – CA1-3 (CA3 as elective).
- Post Anesthesia Recovery Unit—CA1-2.
- Preoperative Optimization – CA2-3.
- Trauma Anesthesia and Anesthesia for Emergency Surgery – CA1-3.
- Surgical Intensive Care Unit – CA2.
- Transplant/Hepatobiliary Anesthesia – CA2-3.
- Vascular Anesthesia – CA1-3.
- Obstetric Anesthesia —CA2-3.
- Chronic Pain—CA2.
Banner Desert Medical Center / Banner Children’s

Banner Desert Medical Center is a a 595-bed hospital in Mesa, AZ, 15.6 miles from Banner – UMC Phoenix. It is the busiest emergency department in Arizona and has one of the busiest inpatient and outpatient surgery volumes in the state, including Banner Children’s, which has 206 beds and an 86-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
- Pediatric Anesthesia – CA2-3.
Phoenix Children’s Hospital

Phoenix Children’s Hospital is a freestanding acute care children’s hospital located in downtown Phoenix. The hospital’s main campus has 533 pediatric beds and is the only Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the state.
- Pediatric Anesthesia – CA3 elective.
Additional Banner Health Facilities
Residents will have the opportunity to perform outside rotations at a variety of Banner Health facilities, including Banner Thunderbird, Banner Estrella, and Banner Heart. These elective rotations provide a unique experience in caring for different populations in a non-academic community setting.
