As MD/PhD students in the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix’s MD/PhD program, we would like to welcome all prospective students, faculty members, and visitors to our program’s webpage. Thank you for your interest in our program!
The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix MD/PhD program is a young and innovative program, leading the way as our school expands into becoming a premier institution for physician-scientist training. The medical school curriculum prepares you to be among the best-trained physicians in Arizona, while the incredible research growth our campus is experiencing provides you unparalleled opportunities to train with faculty who are leaders in their respective fields.
The culture of our program revolves around collaboration, not competition, and this collaboration expands beyond the medical school to encompass a wide variety of collaborative partners in the valley. To date, students have engaged in collaborative projects with Arizona State University, Mayo Clinic Arizona, Northern Arizona University, and Barrow Neurological Institute, to name a few. In addition to the opportunities already engaged by our students, there are a range of opportunities to collaborate with medical programs including Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Valleywise Hospital, and Banner University Medical Center.
As a testament to the fantastic research opportunities and mentorship, multiple MD/PhD students in our young program have received F30 and F31 Fellowships from multiple divisions of the National Institutes of Health, including the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHHD). Many students have also won awards and scholarships from national and international organizations, including the Child Neurology Society, American Academy of Neurology, Melanoma Research Foundation, and more.
Phoenix is an incredible place to live outside of all the studying and lab work, an important consideration when it comes to choosing an MD/PhD program! With the proximity of natural beauty and mountains in towns like Sedona and Flagstaff, amazing National Parks like the Grand Canyon, and a vibrant, rapidly growing downtown area, the fifth-largest city in the nation has something for everyone. Whatever you love to do, you can find it here in Phoenix!
