The city-wide program is based at the rapidly expanding Phoenix VA and encompasses academic and community sites.

Expansion of the Eye Care Service includes comprehensive and subspecialty services and a new Eye Center with a Virtual Eye Hospital (simulation center/wet & dry lab), teaching, and conference space. PVAHCS is the primary teaching site for the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix Ophthalmology Residency Program.

The Virginia G. Piper Medical Clinic at St. Vincent de Paul (SVdeP) is a free clinic that fills a gap in the Phoenix metropolitan health care system by serving uninsured and underserved patients. SVdeP is the only clinic for the underserved in the Valley that has ophthalmology or any eye care services. The aim is to relieve the strain on emergency rooms, but more importantly to be a place of access to the unique and compassionate care needed. Staffed by a team of volunteer physicians and health professionals, the focus on preventative care while also treating acute illness and chronic conditions is paramount. The clinic provides primary care services along with more than 30 different specialties ranging from cardiology to psychiatry, women’s health, and more all under one roof, as well as providing ancillary care, like physical therapy, wound care, nutrition, and counseling. The goal is to meet as many of the patient’s needs as possible in-house at no cost to the patient. The motto is Feed. Clothe. House. Heal.
