Hui Jin Jo, DOHui Jin Jo, DO

Undergraduate: Binghamton University, State University of New York
Medical School: Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Residency: University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix/Payson Family Medicine
Career Interests: My career goal is to practice full-spectrum family medicine, where I can provide comprehensive care to patients of all ages and backgrounds. This encompasses everything from preventive care and chronic disease management to acute care and minor procedures. I am particularly drawn to the diversity of cases and the opportunity to build long-term relationships with patients and their families.
Why Rural Family Medicine: Rural family medicine appeals to me for several reasons. First and foremost, it is the chance to serve communities that often face health care disparities and limited access to medical services. I believe in the importance of equitable health care distribution, and rural areas often present a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on underserved populations. Additionally, practicing in a rural setting allows for a broader scope of practice and greater autonomy, which are crucial for my professional growth and fulfillment. The close-knit nature of rural communities also aligns with my desire to build meaningful connections with patients and become an integral part of their lives.
Why U of A College of Medicine – Phoenix/Payson: The institution is an ideal place for pursuing my career goals in rural family medicine. Its dual-campus model offers comprehensive training across urban and rural settings, providing invaluable exposure to diverse healthcare needs. This prepares me effectively to address healthcare disparities and serve varied populations. Moreover, our program’s strong commitment to community engagement and service-learning resonates deeply with my desire to make a positive impact through medicine.
Hobbies and Activities: Drawing, watching movies, hiking, taking pictures of my cat, Shimmy, cooking and playing video games

Benjamin Johnson, MDBenjamin Johnson, MD

Undergraduate: Austin College
Medical School: Texas Tech University Health Science Center – Lubbock
Residency: University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix/Payson Family Medicine
Career Interests: Full-scope rural family medicine. Some passions I hold within family medicine are hospice/palliative medicine, sports medicine and delivering babies.
Why rural family medicine: Rural medicine is an often overlooked branch of medical practice and I hope to be a voice and advocate for people in rural settings. I also really love rural communities.
Why U of A College of Medicine – Phoenix/Payson: I chose U of A College of Medicine – Phoenix/Payson because of the passion that this community has for rural medicine. During my interviews here, it was clear to me that the physicians in Payson love this place and the community of people they get to serve. They were incredibly warm, welcoming and so excited to have the opportunity to teach residents. It was infectious! As soon as I left, I knew this was the place for me. Further, Gila county, where we spend most of our time, has a great need for physicians, and it is a great privilege to have the opportunity to work here and help alleviate some of that need.
Hobbies and Activities: I have a dog, Merri, whom I love and give a large portion of my free time. Cooking has also been a large part of my life since I was young and still enjoy it now.
