Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Interest Groups
The Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology Interest Groups at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix work together to provide students with opportunities to explore the field of Radiology. While the Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology Interest Groups originally operated independently, the intertwined relationship between the diagnostic and procedural aspects of Radiology led to the functional merging of both groups. Under the guidance of faculty advisor, Dr Eric vanSonnenberg, MD, from the Department of Radiology, the interest groups learn about Radiology through interactive lectures and events.
Events include
- Monthly “Learning Radiology Like a Radiologist” interactive sessions
- Talks on relevant legal topics in medicine, especially pertaining to Radiology
- Talks on academic medicine and private practice
- Procedure simulations in the Center for Simulation and Innovation (CSI)
- Specialist Radiology topics and speakers
- Annual Radiology symposium
- Networking lunches and dinners with Radiology faculty
- Lunch panels with current Radiology residents
- Workshops on Radiology residency applications
- Option to participate or develop research projects
- Events with other interest groups including POCUS, Emergency Medicine, and OB/GYN
Additional Opportunities
Beyond regular events, interest group members get the opportunity to develop and participate in research projects alongside faculty and other students. Students interested in research can contact Dr. vanSonnenberg directly at @email. For those interested in pursuing Radiology, further mentoring and support is given by faculty, residents, and upperclassmates.
