Simulation Center Ambassadors
U of A College of Medicine medical students play a vital role in volunteering at the simulation center, enriching community tours and events with their expertise and passion for healthcare. As ambassadors of medical education, they offer firsthand insights into the sophisticated facilities and advanced technologies utilized in medical training.
Through interactive demonstrations and guided tours, medical students provide invaluable hands-on explanations of simulated medical scenarios, highlighting the center's role and showcasing their personal experience as medical students in preparing future healthcare professionals. Simulation Pool Staff
Simulation Pool Staff play a vital role in facilitating immersive and effective learning experiences. These key, hourly employees are typically healthcare workers and technicians. They help bridge theory and practice in a safe, controlled simulated clinical environments.
By working as a team, simulations are implemented with excellent learning outcomes in a safe environment. Pool Staff work closely with Simulation Instructors and full-time simulation staff to understand and implement in-patient scenarios in support of each scenario’s learning objectives. Pool Staff participate in high fidelity simulation events in two key roles:
- Simulation Operator – Participate during the event “behind the glass”, running the mannequin as directed by the faculty and each case; they are also the voice of the patient.
- Inter-Professional Presence – Participate in the patient room, with the students at bedside as the nurse, carrying out clinical orders and facilitating learning and event progression as directed by faculty, who are typically behind the glass with the Simulation Operator.
Pool Staff provide end to end simulation event support, from setting up, to running events, to resetting after the event. Pre-event preparation includes studying the assigned patient cases in advance, pre-briefing with staff and faculty onsite, and setting up the room according to plan. Post-event includes tearing down their simulation space, equipment, and supplies.
These essential staff members contribute significantly to the effectiveness of medical education. They are part of a select team who prepare future clinical professionals to deliver high-quality patient care, throughout their journey as students.
