Division Chief of Trauma Named
After a national search, Patrick Bosarge, MD, has been named the inaugural division chief of the Trauma Department at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix and Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix.
In his new role, Dr. Bosarge will help the Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix Trauma Center evolve and grow in the academic arena, as well as work closely with other Banner trauma centers to facilitate the delivery of consistent quality care. Dr. Bosarge will be an integral leader for the campus and in continuing to develop the important partnership between the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix and Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix.
“We are excited to have Dr. Bosarge join our leadership team,” Dean Guy Reed, MD, MS, said. “His leadership and expertise in trauma surgery, research and education will be instrumental in bridging academic medical training with clinical care.”
Dr. Bosarge is currently the associate director of the Division of Acute Care Surgery for the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he oversees trauma, surgical critical care, burns and emergency general surgery. He also is director of a 28-bed Trauma Intensive Care Unit and director of the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship.
He is a board-certified surgeon with a certificate in Surgical Critical Care. The focus of his clinical research efforts centers on prehospital care in cardiac arrest and trauma. Dr. Bosarge has authored book chapters, numerous articles and abstracts, and has presented his research across the country.
Dr. Bosarge earned his MD at the University of South Alabama and completed his residency at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in the department of Surgery. Dr. Bosarge served our country in the United States Army from 2001-2014 in the Reserves. He was deployed and worked as a surgeon for the army in Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
