Founder Recognized with Scholarship
The Arizona Medical Association Foundation (ArMA) has created a scholarship in the name of Jacque Chadwick, MD, to honor her hard work and contributions in building the first medical school in Phoenix, and her commitment to serving Arizona.
“Dr. Chadwick was the founding dean in Phoenix, whose vision led the evolution of the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix,” said Chic Older, CEO of ArMA. “This scholarship is intended to honor the work that Dr. Chadwick contributed toward establishing the college. Funding a scholarship in her name is the perfect way to honor all that she has accomplished, by supporting medical students and their future contributions to medicine.”
The Jacque Chadwick, MD, Founder’s Scholarship is funded by ArMA in the amount of $10,000.
“Dr. Chadwick’s passion and commitment in training the next generation of physicians is inspiring,” said Guy Reed, MD, MS, dean of the College of Medicine – Phoenix. “I cannot think of a more deserving physician to receive this highly prestigious recognition. This scholarship will help educate an exceptional group of young physicians here in Phoenix and ultimately improve the health care of the Arizona community.”
Dr. Chadwick is the former vice dean of the medical school and was the first university official in Phoenix for the College of Medicine. The scholarship recognizes the leadership of Dr. Chadwick and her colleagues in the formation and growth of the medical school over the years, as well as her long commitment to ArMA and organized medicine.
Dr. Chadwick is a past president of ArMA and is the former chair of the Committee on Legislative and Governmental Affairs, from 1997 to 2015. She was also an at-large member of the executive committee.
“Hearing about this named scholarship was an incredibly humbling and surprising honor,” Dr. Chadwick said. “Having my name attached to something that will help reduce the burden for students going through medical school makes me feel like, in some small way, I'm giving back to the profession I dearly love through support of the next generation of physicians. I would hope that recipients would embrace the privilege of caring for others, reducing pain and suffering and improving the lives of those under their care.”

About the College
Founded in 2007, the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix inspires and trains exemplary physicians, scientists and leaders to advance its core missions in education, research, clinical care and service to communities across Arizona. The college’s strength lies in our collaborations and partnerships with clinical affiliates, community organizations and industry sponsors. With our primary affiliate, Banner Health, we are recognized as the premier academic medical center in Phoenix. As an anchor institution of the Phoenix Bioscience Core, the college is home to signature research programs in neurosciences, cardiopulmonary diseases, immunology, informatics and metabolism. These focus areas uniquely position us to drive biomedical research and bolster economic development in the region.
As an urban institution with strong roots in rural and tribal health, the college has graduated more than 1,000 physicians and matriculates 130 students each year. Greater than 60% of matriculating students are from Arizona and many continue training at our GME sponsored residency programs, ultimately pursuing local academic and community-based opportunities. While our traditional four-year program continues to thrive, we will launch our recently approved accelerated three-year medical student curriculum with exclusive focus on primary care. This program is designed to further enhance workforce retention needs across Arizona.
The college has embarked on our strategic plan for 2025 to 2030. Learn more.
