With rising temperatures and heat-related deaths in Maricopa County exceeding 400 for the last three years, now — more than ever — we must find ways to "Beat the Heat." Consequently, the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix created this digital series to showcase all the cutting-edge research, technologies and techniques that our medical institution is spearheading to help people stay safe.

In this episode of Clips, we interviewed Freya Spielberg, MD — clinical professor and vice chair of Research in the Department of Family, Community & Preventive Medicine — about her research on improved methods to help offset heat impact. In addition, we asked her about her ongoing work through the University of Arizona's Big Idea Challenge with Amelia Gallitano, MD, PhD. Particularly, how this award will help fuel their research on making Arizona a more heat resilient state.
