Overview
The Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix strives to create an exceptional and well-trained workforce to serve the aging population in Arizona, as well as the rest of the country.
The focus of the program is multifaceted, providing a strong foundation in clinical care, research and community practice in a myriad of care settings. Our mission aligns with the overall mission of the college — to optimize health and health care in Arizona and beyond.
The primary aim of the program is to provide unique and excellent clinical opportunities for the trainees to learn about geriatric psychiatry in diverse learning environments. The goal of the program is to emphasize an interdisciplinary clinical practice under supervision by specialists.
Graduates from the fellowship are expected to be well-rounded and equipped to handle the complex responsibilities of being a geriatric psychiatrist. Graduates will also have specialized clinical and research training in dementia care from an Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. Lastly, they will be well acquainted with interdisciplinary clinical care and community outreach.
