Banner Alzheimer's Institute (BAI)
BAI provides a unique, multidisciplinary experience as an Alzheimer's Disease research center. Under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team, fellows will be involved in the longitudinal care of patients with neurodegenerative disorders. Fellows will also interact with staff from clinical research and social services to understand the breadth of services offered. At BAI, fellows will have excellent support from medical assistants, social workers and administrative staff.
Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix
Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix will provide a variety of clinical experiences. These include psychiatry consultation-liaison services, geriatric ER, palliative care and geriatric medicine. Fellows will have significant clinical exposure at this site during various electives and required rotations. They will have an opportunity to work with providers from a myriad of professional expertise in clinical care and geriatric medicine.
Phoenix Veteran's Administration Health Care Center
The Phoenix Veteran's Administration Health Care Center provides a variety of clinical experiences in different settings, as well as education from multi-specialty practitioners. This enhances the interdisciplinary professional development and knowledge of different health systems for our fellows. Fellows will rotate through the inpatient unit in a geriatric psychiatric service. They will also have a longitudinal clinic at the VA for the equivalent of one day per week for the whole year. In addition, they will work as part of an interdisciplinary team with geriatric medicine faculty in the Geriatric Patient Aligned Care Team (GeriPACT) clinic, as well as the Primary Care – Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) clinics. Other electives available at the VA are consultation-liaison and geriatric addiction medicine.
Banner Behavioral Health Hospital
Banner Behavioral Health Hospital is an acute, inpatient psychiatric facility that treats acutely mentally ill patients. The Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) rotation at the hospital is a three-month experience during the ECT block. The ECT experience can also serve as an elective rotation for interested candidates. Experiences will include the practice of enhanced skills in ECT training. Fellows will also have exposure to transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) in the treatment of mental illness.
Banner Del E Webb Medical Center
Banner Del E Webb provides inpatient and outpatient mental health treatment. The SAGE (Support, Adaption, Growth, Enrichment) unit is one of the few in Arizona to offer care for adults over age 55 who need bother behavioral and medical care. Fellows will rotate through the inpatient unite and consult service. They will also rotate at the Movement Disorder Clinic at the renowned Cleo Roberts Center.
