"Fortunately for the field, the choice of training programs across the country is growing and many of these programs are strong. At the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix, we strive for excellent clinical training combined with educator and leadership training." — Masood Kisana, MD, FAAHPM, program director
We are a young program — our first two fellows completed the fellowship in June 2016 — and are now leading programs in both community and academic centers. Our applicants are from a wide variety of backgrounds — family practice, internal medicine, emergency medicine, medicine-pediatrics, nephrology and anesthesia. Some applicants are just completing their primary residency training and others are making a career change after several years of practice in another setting.
Our faculty is composed of well respected, experienced physicians at the Phoenix VA Medical Center, Banner University Medical Center and Phoenix Children’s Hospital. They all work in concert with professionals from multiple disciplines that make up the teams caring for our vulnerable patients and their families. Compassion and dedication to caring for our patients, while supporting their families through very stressful and challenging times, are the hallmarks of the physicians who choose palliative and hospice care.
