Non-Call Months
During non-call months, residents generally have weekends off. They have occasional assignments of “back up” call during these times, so that if a colleague on a call service needs to be out for a family event, interview, illness or other reason, there is a system for coverage. This is monitored for proper use.

Each team does approximately one week per month of nights 5:00 p.m. – 7:45 a.m. Most other weekdays are 6:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. When one member of the team is off, the other team members cover. New patients are accepted nearly every day. |
BUMCP Ward: Hepatology Co-management Team 1 team |
1 Intern 2 Seniors 1 IM Attending 1 Hepatology Attending 1 GI fellow |
Joint teaching rounds with IM and Hepatology daily. Most weekdays are 6:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. No nights. When one member of the team is off, the other team members cover. New patients are accepted nearly every day. |
VA Ward 5 Teams |
2 Interns 1 Senior 1 Attending |
Most weekdays are 6:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. New patients are accepted every day, with a rotating schedule of short/long call teams and a golden team. No nights (there is a dedicated night float team, see below). |

One senior and 2 of the interns are on each night 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. (the 3rd intern is off). Attending in house. There are no clinics or academic half day this month. |

Every 5 days, one resident moves to cover nights (5:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.) for a block of 5 nights. Attending/fellow readily available at night. The remaining 3 residents cover day shifts with in house attending and fellow. New patients are accepted nearly every day. |

Every 5 days, one team moves to cover nights (5:00 p.m. – 7:45 a.m.). Remaining 4 teams are divided into 2-day teams with an attending and fellow on each. New patients are accepted nearly every day. Attending or fellow in house 24/7. |
