The Division of Cardiology maintains a robust clinical research program focused on advancing cardiovascular care through innovative clinical trials and translational research. With more than 75 active studies spanning general cardiology, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology and advanced heart failure, the division provides patients access to emerging therapies while helping shape the future of cardiovascular medicine.

Under the leadership of Roderick Tung, MD, division chief of Cardiology, the division has established a strong national presence in heart rhythm research, leading multicenter investigator-initiated studies and participating in NIH-funded and PCOR-funded research aimed at improving the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure.

The division is also a leader in structural heart and cardiovascular device research. Under the leadership of Paul Sorajja, MD, Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix became the first center in the United States to implant the AMEND ring, demonstrating the program's commitment to pioneering new therapies. The division continues to participate in early feasibility, investigational device and first-in-human studies that bring innovative cardiovascular technologies to patients.

Through its diverse research portfolio, the Division of Cardiology offers faculty, trainees and students unique opportunities to engage in clinical investigation and contribute to advances in cardiovascular medicine.
