    We’re happy to announce that five University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix students have matched in Ophthalmology. Congratulations to Alex Brown, Josh Theis, Marc Parsons, Noor Basharat, and Nicolas Chartrand!

    At Match Day, future graduates celebrated the end of one journey and the beginning of another. For the College of Medicine – Phoenix’s Class of 2025, stepping into the unknown is hardly a new task. Dealing with the continued effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the class journeyed through their first year with resilience and determination. Despite the challenges around them, they pressed forward — and on Friday, March 21, they arrived at Match Day with unrivaled elation. Their achievements, including these competitive ophthalmology matches, are a testament to their dedication, adaptability, and strength.

    Gholam Peyman, MD Receives IPLAC Creator of the Year Award
    Gholam Peyman, MD, the 2024 recipient of the IPLAC Creator of the Year award: This prestigious award honors Dr. Peyman’s significant creative contributions, including his inventions related to LASIK eye surgery, ophthalmology, vaccines, and thermo-immuno therapies. The award highlights achievements in the Chicago metropolitan area within the scope of intellectual property law.
     
  • Ophthalmology Didactic and Eyeball Dissection Event: On Saturday, March 23, 2024, Dr. Mandi Conway, Chair of Ophthalmology, along with Dr. Jonathan Lass and Dr. Robin Ross, organized an engaging didactic session and hands-on dissection of eyeballs with ophthalmologists.

    Medical Students' Research Presentation at ARVO: Medical students from the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix showcased their research by presenting a poster at The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) conference.
     
  • Global Ophthalmology Summit in Portland, Oregon: In August 2024, Dr. Karl Golnik and Dr. Misha Faustina represented the department at the Global Ophthalmology Summit in downtown Portland. The summit focused on the current state of global eye health, the role of technology and innovation in preventing blindness, global educational initiatives, and eye research priorities.
