Why Arizona and UA College of Medicine – Phoenix: I grew up in Idaho and attended college in California. Upon moving to Arizona for medical school, my wife and I fell in love with the state — and the city of Phoenix. The area has so much to offer with restaurants, outdoor activities and plenty of family friendly events that our two kids can participate in. I chose the College of Medicine – Phoenix because after rotating as a student, I felt like it was the best fit for me. The faculty and residents were welcoming and created a positive learning environment, which felt like a second home. It was clear the program provided a superb educational experience for their residents to excel and become compassionate, knowledgeable psychiatrists. Additionally , being in downtown phoenix allows me to learn, practice and give back to a community I have grown to love the past four years.

Why Arizona and U of A College of Medicine – Phoenix: After growing up in Minnesota and choosing to go to the University of Missouri – Kansas City six-year BA/MD Program, I knew I was ready to experience what life had to offer outside of the Midwest. My decision to come to Banner – UMC Phoenix was an easy one to make after I did a sub-internship here my final year of medical school. Having never been to Arizona before, I felt incredibly welcomed and supported by every resident, faculty and staff member that I came in contact with during my rotation. It was clear from day one that this program truly values strong camaraderie, diverse educational experiences and support for residents. Not to mention, Arizona has everything I am interested in — including hiking, food, diverse culture, warm weather and beautiful sunsets! I feel very fortunate to have ended up at Banner – UMC Phoenix

Why Arizona and U of A College of Medicine – Phoenix: Arizona just can’t be beat. I love the Southwest and the great opportunities for outdoor recreation, the amazing food, and the incredible weather (for about eight months of the year at least, which is pretty good). I chose Banner because I was able to rotate here as a medical student and immediately could tell how close the residents were to each other and to the attendings. There was an obvious culture of collaboration, respect, commitment to education, as well as commitment to the community. I’m thrilled to be a resident at Banner University Medical center – Phoenix. |

Why Arizona and U of A College of Medicine – Phoenix: As a Phoenix native, the idea of being able to train in the community in which I grew up has been a dream. As a matter of fact, I was born at Banner – UMC Phoenix, though it was called Good Samaritan at the time (so I’m old)! Having the support of my family just a short drive away is icing on the cake. When considering programs, Banner stood out because of its compassionate and comprehensive approach to patient care and its warm, welcoming environment, which I was lucky enough to witness as a medical student.

Why Arizona and U of A College of Medicine – Phoenix: I have called Arizona home since I was little. My family is based out of Arizona and the Southwest, and I wanted to train in close proximity to my loved ones. Additionally, Phoenix has an abundance of ways to connect to community members, whether it is through nature excursions or food. I chose the U of A College of Medicine – Phoenix because of the diverse patient population and exposure to a wide variety of subspecialties in psychiatry. What solidified my decision was the kindness and close-knit community of the program. All the faculty and residents have been extremely supportive since I was a medical student, and I am happy to have joined this family.
