Life in Phoenix
City Living
With a population of around 1.6 million people, Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the U.S., offering a central urban downtown area surrounded by suburbs and providing the perfect living environment for nearly any taste. Additionally, Maricopa County is the fastest-growing county in the country — with an affordable cost of living across the Valley. As a resident physician, living in a city with easy navigation that is readily commutable is a major convenience, and our residents appreciate the ability to live within a 10-15 minute drive from the majority of our clinical sites.
Weather and Outdoor Recreation
One big draw of living in Phoenix is the weather. With greater than 300 days of sunshine, low humidity and temperate weather throughout the entire winter, Phoenix offers a great landscape for any number of outdoor activities. National Geographic named Phoenix one of the top-15 hiking cities in the U.S. We offer greater than 180 parks, 30,000 acres of desert preserves and 200 miles of trails for your enjoyment.
Sports and Culture
Whether you enjoy sporting events, a cultured night out or both, Phoenix has it all in regard to entertainment. We have professional basketball, baseball, football and ice hockey teams. Our college also represents a large PAC-12 university. Throughout February and March, 15 major league baseball teams play more than 200 games in the Phoenix area for Spring Training. In addition, we boast opportunities and venues for incredible musical and theatrical productions, including the Arizona Opera Company, Ballet Arizona and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Gammage Auditorium.
Food Scene
Phoenix offers an incredible food scene regardless of your desired cuisine and price point. From dive bars with brunch — the perfect-post call destination — to upscale dining with outdoor seating and a view and everything in between — think street tacos, eclectic coffee shops, scratch kitchens, unique cocktail parlors and so much more — Phoenix is an up-and-coming foodie city.
