Program Overview

Summer Scrubs is a health career exploration program that helps high school students prepare for their future in the health professions. With this program, students will get the opportunity to participate in professional lectures, health-related field trips and hands-on lab experiences. "Scrub in" this summer at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix!

2020 Summer Scrubs Sessions

Explore Medicine Program – 11th Grade:
The Explore Medicine sessions are for current 11th grade students who are interested in becoming physicians. Participants will spend one week exploring physician specialties by learning from various medical doctors.

Session 1 (Residential):

  • Dates: June 7–13.
  • Overnight Program? Yes.
  • Times: Check-in will be June 7 at 3:00 p.m. and checkout will be June 13 at 12:00 p.m.
  • Cost: $600*. All students are encouraged to apply for full and partial need-based scholarships.
  • Eligibility: Current 11th grade students who are approaching senior year.
       Consideration will be given to students that meet one or more of the following criteria:
    • Socioeconomically disadvantaged.
    • First-generation college attendee.
    • From rural Arizona.
    • Member of federally recognized American Indian Tribe.

Session 2 (Weekdays Only):

  • Dates: June 15–19.
  • Overnight Program? No.
  • Times: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Cost: $300*.
  • Eligibility: Current 11th grade students approaching senior year.

The Health Care Team – 9th/10th Grade:
The Health Care Team sessions are for current 9th and 10th grade students who are interested in a health care career, but who are unsure as to which path to take. Participants will spend a week exploring several health care occupations by learning from medical doctors, physician’s assistants, nurses and others who make-up the health care team.

Session 3 (Weekdays Only):

  • Dates: June 22–26.
  • Overnight Program? No.
  • Times: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Cost: $300*.
  • Eligibility: Current 9th and 10th grade students approaching 10th and 11th grade.

*Full and partial need-based scholarships provided by Arizona Latin Medical Association and Central Arizona Area Health Education Center (CAAHEC). You can apply for the scholarship when you submit your application.
