Amanda Mesa in Anchorage, Alaska

"As an R1, you wait all year for your chance to finally get the "Alaska experience." And I can say, it was well worth the wait and did not disappoint in both clinical and outside-the-hospital experiences. The schedule is grueling and the hours are long, but you still have the time to get out and explore." — Amanda Mesa, Class of 2024

Anchorage, Alaska is where we spend about six months of our residency while rotating at the Alaska Native Medical Center. Anchorage is the most populous city in Alaska at ~400,000 and boasts a wide array of excellent restaurants. There is also easy access to many hiking and mountain biking trails, hunting and fishing, a ski resort, and many other outdoor activities.
