The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix is pleased to invite you to the Flinn Foundation Buffmire Lecture with Jeffrey L. Carson, MD, MACP. At this presentation, Dr. Carson will present High-Risk Clinical Settings: Heart, Brain and the Gut.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe risks related to anemia.
  • Explore adverse effects of transfusions.
  • Discuss trial data related to transfusion thresholds in high-risk clinical settings.

Validation will be provided for parking in the Phoenix Bioscience Core garage. Please RSVP as lunch will be provided for those in attendance. For those unable to attend in-person, a Zoom option will also be available.

About Dr. Carson

Dr. Carson practices general internal medicine and has special interest in bloodless medicine and transfusion medicine. He is funded by the National Heart Lung Blood Institute and leads clinical trials evaluating use of blood transfusions in patients with heart attacks.


In partnership with the Flinn Foundation, the college hosts the Buffmire Lecture series to bring national leaders in the science and art of medicine to Arizona to share their expertise with students, residents, clinicians, faculty and partners to improve health care for the communities we serve.

The lectureship is named for Donald K. Buffmire, MD, in recognition of his distinguished career as a medical practitioner in Arizona and his leadership role with the Flinn Foundation in supporting the College of Medicine – Phoenix.
