The center is developing various technology platforms for rapid and point-of-care detection of pathogens. For example, our team is developing an ultra-sensitive protein and nucleic acid based assay platform using paper-based microfluidic vertical flow assay.
This system is under development for field application in countermeasures against biothreat pathogens (Tier 1) for the soldier, but also for monitoring the health of astronauts in longterm deep space missions.
In addition, after identifying and producing new recombinant antibodies, the platform will be applied to the multiplexing detection of various antigens from viral particles, such as in COVID-19.
In coordination with these efforts, the center is developing new decontamination techniques and prototyping medical devices for addressing supply chain shortages during pandemics.
