Falah Abu Hassan, MD

Medical School: University of Jordan
Career Interests: My primary focus is specializing in procedural pulmonology and advanced airway interventions. I plan to build a career that blends interventional procedures with clinical research aimed at improving procedural techniques and patient outcomes. Alongside my clinical work, I am deeply invested in medical education and creating accessible, practical resources for fellow trainees and practicing clinicians.
Why the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix: I chose the U of A College of Medicine Phoenix because I wanted a training environment that didn’t compromise on clinical volume or academic excellence. Working within the Banner Health system provides an incredible diversity of complex cases, which is exactly what I needed to build a strong foundation in pulmonary and critical care. Since my goal is to focus on procedural pulmonology, the mentorship opportunities here were a huge draw for me, especially the ability to rotate with a dedicated interventional pulmonologist without competing with an IP fellow, which guarantees the hands-on experience needed to master advanced bronchoscopy. Additionally, the institution serves as a major ILD referral center and a tertiary pulmonary hypertension center. To saturate exposure with all the complex pulmonary diseases, they offer pre and post lung transplant care, opportunities to rotate in a transplant center, dedicated CF rotations and separate advanced lung disease rotations alongside robust simulation training for airway management and ECMO. The fellowship is very flexible; would tailor your goals and help you build the career you choose by providing custom rotations for that. Beyond the clinical exposure, it was the culture of the program that really sold me. My interview experience was refreshingly honest and genuine, and it was very clear that "what you see is what you get." The faculty are incredibly supportive and genuinely invested in mentorship. Specifically, knowing I would have strong guidance to help navigate my path into an interventional pulmonology fellowship was a massive factor in my decision to train here.
Hobbies and Personal Interests: I am the creator and active editor of www.ipbronch.com, an educational platform focused on updates in the literature of procedural pulmonology. When I’m not working, I spend my time on software development projects, cooking Middle Eastern cuisine, hosting weekend barbecues, traveling and mentoring doctors as they navigate their own training journeys across the world.
