The first objective of our Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine fellowship program is to train physicians to whom we would entrust the care of a critically ill family member.
We offer a three-year Pulmonary and Critical Care track. Our fellows consistently rate the diversity of the clinical experience and the commitment of our faculty to teaching as the top two strengths of our program.
Our program has two homes — Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Phoenix — but our fellows take advantage of elective educational opportunities with partners across the Valley. Our fellows also learn to become clinical scholars over the course of their training, learning how to critically appraise literature and contribute to it through developing their own research ideas. Our fellowship is not easy, but when our fellows graduate, they are life-long learners that can handle themselves in the most challenging clinical situations in the pulmonary clinic, sleep lab, hospital and ICU.
Our faculty are a broad mix of academic and private practice physicians — clinicians and researchers — offering our fellows the opportunity to consider different career paths. Clinical specialty areas of expertise include ultrasonography, advanced pulmonary procedures — including EBUS and right-heart catheterization — ECMO and sleep medicine, among others. Our Advanced Lung Disease Institute offers exposure to cutting-edge pulmonary therapeutics focusing on pulmonary hypertension and post-operative management of lung transplantation patients. Close clinical partnerships with affiliated training programs such as our Medical Toxicology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowships broaden the scope of clinical experiences for the fellows.
