The program has a process to provide actionable feedback that is anonymous and confidential, from multiple sources, and part of a broader discussion with the PD or other leader on an annual basis (and as needed). |
The program provides education to faculty regarding the process for annual feedback as a sign of the program valuing the topic. |
When asked, faculty know the program's process for distributing anonymous feedback from multiple sources on at least an annual basis. |
Program has evidence that the process to provide actionable feedback that is anonymous and confidential, from multiple sources, and part of a broader discussion with the PD or other leader, is occurring on an annual basis (and as needed). |
The Program has evidence of outcomes as a result of the distribution of feedback to faculty. |
💡Improvement idea 1: Faculty feedback is reviewed, distributed, and discussed annually by the PD
Tools:
Implementation:
- PD makes announcements at faculty meetings on the flow process for faculty feedback
- PD distributes faculty feedback using the standard GME flow every January
|
💡Improvement idea 2: Faculty reflection on their feedback as part of their annual review
Tools:
- ACGME Clinician Educator Milestones with an associated toolkit
- Program/Department Teaching awards
- Banner CEP modules or similar (Practicing Excellence app) – relevant search terms: Receiving feedback, Self-awareness
Implementation:
- Share with your faculty and suggest that they take one at a time for small micro learning
- PD can utilize feedback results to set annual goals with individual faculty members
|
💡Improvement idea 3: Faculty Teaching improves as a result of feedback
Tools:
Implementation:
- Create an award to recognize trainees and faculty who meet/exceed the program’s expectations for timely feedback
- PD sends a personal email to faculty to complete evals if they are more than one month late. The email reminds them of the 2-week standard
- Report of evaluation timeliness included in annual faculty feedback or other regular communication

Core faculty, APDs and residency/fellowship faculty are attending faculty development. |
The program has evidence that the faculty are actively participating in faculty development and use it to inform future sessions and the program's FD offerings. |
The Program has evidence of educational outcomes as a result of the regular integration of faculty development in the work of the faculty. |
💡Improvement idea 1: The program distributes faculty development opportunities
Tools:
Implementation:
- Distribute quarterly emails with faculty development opportunities locally and nationally
- PD email to faculty includes a faculty development tip of the month and how it applies to their program
|
💡Improvement idea 2: The program develops and shares faculty development content during program/department meetings
Tools:
Implementation:
- Integrate one snippet in each program meeting
- Select a speaker for key topics. Experts are all around the College!
- Send a link for a 10-15 minute snippet and ask faculty to watch/listen in advance of a meeting and add a discussion of it in the agenda of a faculty meeting
|
💡Improvement idea 3: Faculty development enhancements are considered and acted on at PEC and program leadership meetings
Tool:
- Create or add to existing PEC checklist that includes faculty development to prompt discussion
Implementation:
- Utilize GME resources to incorporate faculty development topics into annual program planning
- Have faculty present on topics learned at national meetings

The Program has written expectations that faculty be present at conferences and spend time teaching on rounds and in didactics. The program has a supervision policy that meets the ACGME requirements and reviews it annually with residents/fellows and faculty. |
Residents/fellows agree to some of the following: that the program and faculty are committed to education, that the didactics are high quality. Residents/fellows and faculty are aware of the supervision policy. |
Residents/fellows agree to most of the following: that the program and faculty are committed to education, that the didactics are high quality. Residents/fellows and faculty regularly apply the supervision policy with communicating when needed and providing direct supervision when required in the policy. |
The program has evidence beyond general resident/fellow & faculty perception that the didactics are high quality through demonstrated outcomes. The program tracks the occurrence of situations requiring direct communication and direct supervision and uses it to improve patient care and education. |
The Program has evidence of educational and patient care outcomes as a result of the didactics and supervision process. |
💡Improvement idea 1: Enhancing the utility of faculty supervision policies
Tools:
Implementation:
- Policy is reviewed with all new faculty members on hiring
|
💡Improvement idea 2: Improving didactic presentations
Tools:
Implementation:
- GME leaders in education can mentor and offer direct observation for faculty during educational sessions
|
💡Improvement idea 3: Improving bedside teaching
