The Division of Palliative Care is actively involved in medical education and mentorship for medical students, residents, fellows and interdisciplinary learners. We collaborate with the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix and the Phoenix VA Health Care System to train Hospice and Palliative Care fellows each year.

Graduate Medical Education Programs in the Division
Hospice and Palliative Fellowship – This one-year, multidisciplinary program provides training across inpatient, outpatient, long-term care and hospice settings. Fellows work closely with interdisciplinary palliative care teams to develop advanced communication, symptom management and end-of-life care skills while gaining longitudinal clinical experience. The program also includes weekly didactic education and opportunities for scholarly and research activities tailored to fellows’ interests.
Residency Training – The Division of Palliative Care provides enriching clinical experiences for residents of all training programs through inpatient consult services and interdisciplinary care settings. Residents gain exposure to symptom management, serious illness communication, hospice care and end-of-life decision-making across multiple training sites — including Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix and Phoenix VA Medical Center. These experiences strengthen residents’ ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care while working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
