U of A College of Medicine – Phoenix Research Week

Overview

For the first time, the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix will be hosting a Research Week, showcasing multiple research events that were previously held at different times of the year.

This new format will foster collaboration and highlight exciting research projects and discoveries among diverse groups at all training levels. Thanks to our generous sponsors, the Arizona Biomedical Research Centre and the Flinn Foundation, there is no cost to attend these events.

Monday, May 5

15^th Annual Scholarly Project Research Symposium

The symposium is a forum for attendees to engage with the Class of 2025 medical students and inquire about their scholarly projects and results during multiple poster sessions. Every student at the college designs and successfully completes a hypothesis-driven research Scholarly Project (SP) and works closely with mentors throughout the four years of their project. Through this process students learn about medical information literacy, life-long learning, teamwork, effective communication, research methods, evidence-based medicine approaches and ethics related to scholarly inquiry.

Tuesday, May 6

Biomedical Research: Bridging Science and Health

This event will showcase the latest discoveries by featured faculty speakers as well as undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral trainees at the U of A College of Medicine – Phoenix. All trainees will be invited to prepare posters to present their research findings. Top abstracts in Cardiovascular/Pulmonary, Neuroscience and Cancer Cell Biology/Immunology will be selected for oral presentations.

Wednesday, May 7

29^th Annual Michael D. Grossman, MD Academic Excellence Day

The mission of Academic Excellence Day is to promote an environment of academic excellence amongst trainees in our participating institutions. The 29^th Annual Michael D. Grossman Academic Excellence Day will provide an opportunity for residents and fellows in training programs in the greater Phoenix area to showcase the volume of bench and clinical research and quality improvement initiatives being performed. In 2025, we will be offering a hybrid format of virtual posters and an in-person oral presentation event.

10^th Annual ABRC-Flinn Research Conference

This annual research conference brings together grant awardees from the Arizona Biomedical Research Centre and the Flinn Foundation to showcase their research advances. This conference is an in-person event with presentations from distinguished speakers, poster presentations from grant awardees and a networking reception.

Friday, May 9

Research Mentoring and Education 

Friday will include multiple presentations focused on mentoring and research education. The day will kick off with Grand Rounds featuring a presentation from Dr. Sanjay Saint, MD, MPH, MACP, on mentorship in research. Additional sessions will be hosted by the Center for Biotech Research Development and Entrepreneurialism (BRDE), the Office of Research, Innovation and Impact (RII), and the Translational Research Office Research Education.
