Brief Bio

Dr. Roberta Matern is a graduate of Mayo Medical School in Rochester, MN and completed her residency in Family and Community Medicine at Maricopa Medical Center (now Valleywise) in Phoenix. She grew up the daughter of medical missionaries who served in Vietnam and Nepal and embraces the value of full spectrum family medicine, which she practices and teaches.

Dr. Matern loves to practice prenatal and obstetrical care, office procedures, and inpatient care. She also finds satisfaction in patient education and community involvement. Dr. Matern has been involved in medical student and graduate medical education since she herself finished residency and is dedicated to teaching the joys of full-spectrum family medicine. She is very excited to be the inaugural program director of our new rural Family Medicine Residency in Payson, AZ.
