Our program prioritizes early autonomy and gets its residents into the operating room where we can learn from experts in the field. The culture and camaraderie of the residents is one of the things I love most about the program.

Why the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix: During my interview, I was impressed by the faculty members—many of whom were former residents who returned as attendings, a true testament to the program’s supportive culture and the strength of its training. I was particularly drawn to the early operative experience, which reflects the program’s confidence in its residents and commitment to hands-on learning. Also, the unique opportunity to rotate in Alaska resonated with my interest in global surgery, offering exposure to a resource-unique environment and a culturally distinct patient population. Most importantly, I felt a genuine connection with the faculty and residents I interacted with. The welcoming and collaborative atmosphere affirmed that this is a place where I would be challenged, supported, and given the tools to thrive as a future academic surgeon and global health leader.
