The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is committed to advancing education and training in the diagnosis and management of all aspects of digestive and liver diseases. Our faculty members meet the needs of our learners across the medical education continuum through specialty clinical and didactic training of medical students and residents, and through personalized education in the fellowship programs. In addition, mentorship of learners at all levels have led to national recognition. We are here to develop the next generation of leaders in gastroenterology and hepatology.

Graduate Medical Education programs in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology:

  • Gastroenterology Fellowship – A comprehensive three-year program providing rigorous clinical training and research opportunities, preparing our fellows for successful careers in general and subspecialty GI and hepatology. The clinical sites include B-UMCP and the Phoenix VA, providing exceptional care to a diverse patient population.
  • Transplant Hepatology Fellowship – Dedicated to the care of patients with advanced liver disease we provide stellar, hands-on transplant and non-transplant hepatology training for a future liver transplant physician who has completed, or will soon complete, a three-year gastroenterology fellowship from an accredited institution. This fellowship provides exposure to high volume and complexity of patient care in collaboration with transplant teams at the largest transplant center in the state.
  • Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship – This non-ACGME fellowship provides exceptional focused training in complex procedures such as ERCP and EUS for fellows pursuing expertise in interventional endoscopy. The clinical environment provides diverse and complex pathologies and management strategies.
  • Residency Training - Our GI teams provide elective rotations in GI and hepatology within the residency program as well as co-management of advanced liver disease on a highly-specialized inpatient team with Internal Medicine and Hepatology faculty. Clinical sites include B-UMCP and the Phoenix VA Medical Center, thereby offering full breadth and depth of educational opportunities.
