Residents have committed their youth and professional lives to the service of their community, and they have entrusted us to be thoughtful and intentional about how we use their time and energy as trainees. We take that responsibility very seriously. Residency is unavoidably difficult, but our program has a longstanding commitment to resident wellness. All programs have a responsibility to maintain ACGME accreditation and graduate competent OB/GYN physicians.
We additionally strive to recognize the unique gifts of our residents and to foster as much as possible the development of those strengths while reinforcing a strong sense of camaraderie as a team. The training environment must strike a harmony between, on the one hand, near superhuman mental and physical demands, and on the other hand, supportive supervision and grace. Every day of residency is filled with new and unique challenges that we aim to transform into triumphs. That is the legacy that has been left behind by past generations of educators at this institution, and that is the foundation for my work as program director.
