Amanda Hendricks, MAEd, director of Faculty Affairs and Career Development, hosts promotion sessions quarterly via Zoom and at affiliate hospital sites, discussing “The Role of Professionalism and Professional Relationships in Refining Your Medicine Portfolio or Dossier.” These one-hour sessions include CME credit and cover seven objectives surrounding requesting letters, upholding high academic ethics, evidence of productivity and more.

- Describe and act on the typically unspoken criteria for upward career mobility, as well as the academic expectations for the specific track faculty are on (e.g. research versus education scholar track versus clinical scholar track)
- Describe and synthesize the following: evaluation, activities that serve as evidence of productivity in the clinical setting, teaching, research and administration to include in the relevant portfolio.
- Reflect on the relevance of professional communication, as well as the perception availability and visibility have to their overall practice in delivering care, research and teaching.
- Recite and connect the importance of the annual performance review and dossier preparation has evidence of productivity and professional interconnection and collaboration.
- Identify and articulate the role that professional relationships play in academic collaborations; character and academic references; in the refining of one’s academic portfolio, annual review or dossier.
- Understand techniques for requesting letters or notes of commendation from patients, learners, and peers for their academic portfolios.
- Uphold high academic ethics/honesty when reporting academic activity on CVs and personal statements (i.e. authorship rules; extent of relationship with external reviewers).
